Apple is set to make a significant investment in the American semiconductor industry through a new multi-year partnership with Broadcom. The tech giant has committed over $30 billion to produce more than 15 billion chips in the United States, a move that will bolster domestic semiconductor production and expand its American supply chain network.
This substantial investment is aligned with Apple’s strategic goal to establish a comprehensive U.S.-based chip ecosystem that encompasses both design and manufacturing of chips. This initiative is anticipated to create hundreds of jobs and ramp up the production of cutting-edge wireless technologies integral to Apple devices.
Under the terms of the partnership, Broadcom is set to invest $1.5 billion to upgrade and enhance its manufacturing facility located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The expansion will focus on producing advanced radio frequency (RF) components, including FBAR filters, which are crucial for improving wireless performance and connectivity in Apple’s product lineup.
Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized that this collaboration underscores the company’s enduring commitment to fostering American manufacturing and technological innovation. He highlighted the importance of the advanced components to be produced in Colorado in ensuring the high performance and wireless capabilities that Apple customers have come to expect. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan expressed enthusiasm for the expanded partnership, highlighting a shared commitment between the two companies to enhance American innovation and production capabilities.
