Lidl Hungary has inaugurated its largest logistics hub in the country, located in Kiskunfélegyháza, with an investment totaling nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million. This state-of-the-art facility is set to bolster the supply chain for about 70 Lidl stores across Hungary, demonstrating the company’s commitment to enhancing its operational infrastructure.
Spanning an impressive 83,000 square meters, the logistics center is a significant contributor to local employment, having already created over 400 jobs. The company also plans to expand its workforce by hiring an additional 50 employees in the near future. The center is equipped with cutting-edge features, including 194 loading docks and a refrigerated section covering 24,000 square meters, ensuring efficient handling and storage of perishable goods.
In line with Lidl’s sustainability goals, the facility incorporates several eco-friendly technologies. A notable feature is the 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar panel installation, which contributes to the center’s energy efficiency. Additionally, the logistics center utilizes waste heat from its refrigeration system to provide underfloor heating, exemplifying innovative energy reuse. A biodiverse green area covering 10,000 square meters surrounds the site, further underscoring Lidl’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
This new logistics hub is poised to significantly strengthen Lidl’s supply network across Hungary, with an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods expected to be dispatched from the facility daily. Lidl’s strategic expansion is supported by its robust relationship with local suppliers, sourcing nearly 60% of its products domestically. Currently operating 220 stores nationwide, Lidl’s latest investment is crucial in facilitating its growth and solidifying its market presence within Hungary.
